Menopausal hair loss: a few tips to arrive prepared

The menopause is a very delicate time in a woman’s life, usually occurring between the ages of 45 and 55.

During this phase, the body undergoes some important changes related to the new hormonal adjustments caused by the drop in oestrogen in the blood.

Although it is often treated as such, it is by no means an illness, but rather a profoundly transformative period, which can also be difficult cope with and which, fortunately, we are hearing more and more about, thus abolishing a taboo. Arriving prepared can indeed help to live this moment with peace of mind and starting a new conversation around this topic is of paramount importance today.

Compared to the past, things are changing, particularly in the world of skin care too: perhaps not everyone knows that there are many products on the market specifically formulated for skin during the menopause. The famous actress Naomi Watts, for example, recently launched Stripes (with the claim Holistic Menopause Solutions that Work), a beauty brand that offers interesting solutions to remedy many side effects.

Hair care and menopause: tips and remedies

As for the topic that is closest to our hearts, hair care, on the other hand: what can we do?
First of all, without a doubt, it is important to observe and listen to our own body, to take time and pay attention to its needs, especially in such a delicate phase. Care and attention can only lead to treating, and possibly resolving, any situation that arises.

It is a fact that after the menopause, many women observe their hair weakening and transforming, becoming weaker, thinner and less shiny, and even dealing with the problem of hair loss – androgenetic alopecia. But the good news is that we have several effective tools at our disposal to deal with the problem and a wide variety of solutions to build and customise on a case-by-case basis.

Let’s start with some important considerations:

  1. Never ignore or neglect the first signs of weakening or thinning.
It is important to make immediate use of experts to assess the condition of our hair and to be guided in the choice of specific products and treatments that, right from the start, can prove to be of great help – or even decisive.

  2.  Always consider all factors that may influence the situation, through an all-round assessment of health and lifestyle habits. Stress, genes, other hormonal imbalances (such as thyroid), nutritional or iron deficiencies, drastic diets or other diseases, taking medication: a detailed medical history and specific diagnostic tests help to assess and identify risk factors, in order to intervene in the most appropriate way.

  3. Be patient and persevere: we are ready to welcome you and listen to you in our centres, to study a path together, but it is essential to give treatments the time they need to be effective and to trust the experts who will take the case to heart. Defining timeframes and goals together, and knowing what results can realistically be achieved, can give you a certain peace of mind right from the start.
